I couldn't think of a better spot to start this -- and since this area is the "freak of nature" discussion, it seemed like the best fit!

I've noticed a LOT of lenticular clouds this year! The week in July when we had the tropical jet stream pouring into the PNW was especially prolific - I shot this GIGANTIC lenticular "landing" just north of Mount Hood, as seen from Lolo Pass Road:

Then I happened to be up at Timberline yesterday, and photographed a small lenticular cloud attempting to form for nearly four hours -- this is the view from the Salmon River headwaters:

    Small, but scenic!

Okay... so that's the theme! Anyone have cool lenticular cloud images that you'd like to post...?

This one's pretty boring compared to Tom's dramatic ones... it's from the top of the Dalles Mountain Road in early May:

This is a terrible picture of a tiny cloud, but it was noteworthy because I didn't even know the mountain was there until I saw the cloud!

What do you suppose is around that next bend?

Not sure if these are lenticular or not... (they look too upside-down!)? I thought they were really   interesting, though! This was taken from just above Snowgrass Flats near Goat Rocks mid-July of this year.

There was a little one above Mt Hood this morning. Taken from the middle of Lost Lake:

These are a couple older ones from Mt. Rainier... both on the same day. the cloud kept growing and growing... I have some others later where it's like 3x the size of Mt. Rainier, but those aren't on-line.
