  • Primary Filegroup?

     04-23-2008, 10:30 PM

I'm having difficulty posting a planned trip in the Organize and Invite forum due to the Primary File Group being full. I don't know what that means, except maybe that my post is too large.. which is weird as I don't THINK it is big. I can preview it all right.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Any time you get a "server error in application" message it's a symptom that PH.org has overrun its capacities. I know there's a big effort going on to migrate to a new server and software. Sounds like we are getting into crisis mode again! I tried to post smething on ticks with one url reference and it bombed. Hold onto those trip reports for a while--good idea to copy them to Word or a text document so you don't have to start over.

I'm very glad to have found this thread...thought it was just me.  I've tried posting over 20 times in three days...all with that error!  Doh!

Good to see it isn't a lame newbie mistake on my part.

I put in a temporary fix.  Hopefully it's a little better.  I think we will probably be moving soon, once everyone has a little free time.

Looks like the error is back.  Sad

Sorry about these errors guys!  That's got to be pretty frustrating.  I've been away from the website for a few days so I wasn't aware this was happening.  Thanks to Dan for fixing the problem and bringing it to my attention.

Go Daddy provides us with a mere 500 mg of storage space on their SQL server.  We've been at well over 600 mg for over a year now, so the physical limits must be slightly higher than what's in the contract.  Everything is shared in virtual space so it's difficult to know exactly how they manage it.

Every 6 months or so we start hitting the limit and either Dan or I have to run some clean up scripts on the server.  This clean up scripts should only help short term - and the problem is only going to get worse - so it's inevitable that we have to move!

The move is probably going to be painful and timecoming so it's all too easy to postpone once things are working fast again.  However, it's probably time to get serious about an upgrade

Is this why I get an error when I try to view my profile? I thought maybe I was just locked out of it.

"server error in application" showing up again now when I try to post. I guess that's a sign that I should get off the computer and go to bed! I saved it on Word and will try again tomorrow.

I've been getting the error for the past few days. How about we all go through and clean out some pictures?!!! I'll be the first.

I've been trying to make a post on spring avalanche dangers for several days now--I get our old friend "Server Error in Application" every time. EDIT--it finally posted. It took me a couple of tries to post this one!

Note that if you clean out pictures in the Gallery, there will be no pictures in your reports. Not a great idea. For future use, I suggest that everyone use one of the free photo sites out there (I use flickr) instead of the Gallery here (which is hard to use anyway).

    A few suggestions:

Before you try to post an item of more than a few lines, copy/paste it to Word or a text file, so you have a backup.

Deleting gallery pics--please be careful. I'd suggest that you _not_ delete gallery pics used in a big trip report, even if it's an old one. This is especially important for trip reports where there is no Field Guide entry.

Jeff and our other very capable moderators are working on transitioning to a new host and new software. It's a lot of work, there are a lot of concerns (including the Gallery pictures) and it won't happen overnight. These guys are all doing this as a volunteer effort and they all have real jobs and families as well as wanting to get out and hike once in a while. Be patient, folks, we'll get there!

Thanks Jeff, Martell, Steve, and others for doing this.

We will just have to be patient until it's fixed.
