Deleting photos probably isn't going to help.  The photos are stored on the file server and not the SQL server.  Our file server has TONS of space still.  The only solution to the problem is for us to move and move soon!  We are meeting early this week to get a plan together.

Here's a tip in the meantime: I've been trying to post a trip report from the TAO outing on Saturday, and was baffled by the fact that other posts were going through, but this one just couldn't get past the wall. So my theory is that the number of image links in the post is part of the problem - I was just able to post an image-free reply to another thread, so thus my theory.

Jeff, does it make sense if SQL server is basically blocking posts that bring a lot of image links with them?

Tom, my testing makes it seem as if it's the sheer size of the post. Over in my Munra Point thread, I tried a post with several paragraphs of text, but no pics at all. It wouldn't go through. The same exact text, in several installments did.

The error says that we've reached a database size limit hardcoded into out database by the ISP. My theory is that for some reason, they are allowing tiny posts to go through, but stopping anything of any size.

What do you suppose is around that next bend?

The last trip report I posted I found it worked when I added two photos at a time, kind of building it as I went along. I had to go in and edit it a bunch of times but that was the only way I could get it to work and it went fine that way.

Part of the reason for the hit and miss nature of the problem is that I have been running clean-up scripts in the background to give us a little breathing room.  I've been truncating logs and administrative tables to free up a bit of DB space.  These are stop-gap measures that will only give us a bit more time. The batch I did this morning should suffice for a few days.

I'm meeting with "the A TEAM" this evening (Dan and Steve) to see if we can get a plan together going forward.

We've been anticipating a rather big move for about a year now, but little tweaks and GoDaddy shifting us around to different servers have helped postpone the inevitable.  With the nice weather upon us this week this site is going to be seeing A LOT of new traffic!

I even tried just puttting a link to the individual photos so I could tell a better story of the trip but it just wasn't to be this time.

Patience, folks! Progress on the migration to new server and software is being reported on this thread. Per Jeff, as of a couple of days ago, "...we're very close and hoping to cut over Saturday night." Even if this turns out to be overly optimistic (I've been through several complete changes in accounting software in my career), it won't be long now!

I have a feeling there's going to be a dam-burst of trip reports on the site changeover.  Smile
