I gave mine a major workout last weekend on the Lower Starvation Loop. Most of the photos on this trip report are taken with the "little Olympus". It does take awhile to remember where all the features are hidden, but I suppose that goes hand-in-hand with being a "Swiss Army Knife" sort of camera.

Fun to be taking more spontaneous photos again, though!

Those are great photos both on your original report and on Lower Starvation Loop. The "Swiss Army Knife" description is an apt description. I'm looking forward to many pictures with it.

I was interested that you like the "focus assist" zoom pane for manual focus - the jury's still out for me on that feature. I gave up on manual focus after a few tries (at least for close shots).

But I did learn a trick on close-up photos of flowers and whatnot: pick the center-focus setting in autofocus, then make sure that you center your photo on whatever part you most want to be in focus and hold it steady - the camera will almost always give a good close-up focus this way.

If you leave it in the ESP mode, it's struggling to balance focus of the flower or object that is the subject, and the background, and often misses the object in question. But it's very sensitive when focusing, so if you're focus spot is moving around, the camera will keep refocusing, too. Image stabilization does the rest, so it's very handy.

Good Tip! I'm going to try it.

    Thanks.
