Sneak peek of the new site.  This is not the final look and feel, but this is what we're playing with at the moment.  We are scurrying to finish this up.  Hopefull it will only be a matter of days now

looks good, but one question:  will the new site have the "new posts" feature where you only have to see posts that you have not read yet?  I have to admit its the only way I view posts here, unless I am looking for something specific.

Do you mean the "active topics"?  I agree, that is how I typically read the site as well, unless I am searching for a specific topic.  It appears as though the new software can support this type of functionality, but I'm sure Jeff can verify that.

Yes it has a new posts page as well as pages for "active topics" and "unanswered posts".

if you click on the image, you'll see there is a link for new posts in the read banner.  (Not sure if the buttons are going to continue to look exactly like they look in this layout.)

An impatient grannyhiker is wondering how soon the changeover will happen so we can post more than two lines without the dreaded "Server error in application" message. The current situation is really hard on this overly-wordy former English major, who is getting a bit too long in the tooth to change over to a Hemingwayish prose style. And I have a photographic trip report from Tajikistan to post!

I suspect that some financial donations at this critical juncture would be welcome--see the home page for details on how.

What happened to the PayPal donation link on the home page??? Or am I going blind?

    EDIT--never mind, I found it--left column!!!

Donations are great, and I'd hate to discourage it, but what I really need is someone to work my day job and watch my kids Wink

Kidding aside we're very close and hoping to cut over Saturday night.

I hope that everyone remembers that these tireless moderators/administrators do have "regular" jobs and families and that their work on this site is strictly volunteer. They probably want to go hiking occasionally, too! Many thanks, guys, for all that you do!

I hope so!  The new site does some cool "ranking" things too.

Just want to bump this thread up so that new folks coming in know what's going on and will hopefullybe patient with the current status limiting us to one-sentence posts.

    Hello everyone!

    Quick update.

We are going to try to cut over this Tuesday (June 17th).

Hopefully starting Wednesday the portlandhikers.org link will take you to the new site.  Your username is already on the new site.  However you'll need a new password to get in.  Look for an email with your new password.  (If you don't get the email, let me or Dan (Martell) know and we'll help you get in)  Of course, once you're in you can change your password back.

I've updated the information doc so you might want to take a second and review it.

I've created a couple FAQs on the new site to guide you along.

Thanks for everyone's patience.  I know it's been frustrating here for the last few weeks!

Please forgive me...but where is that header photo on the new site taken?

I want to stand there too :)
