I just received this in an email:

    Hello,

Mountain Hardwear’s new flagship store will open its doors at 722 SW Taylor in downtown Portland on April 11th! We will be celebrating the opening throughout the week with special events including visits and slide shows from athletes,  free daypacks for the first 25 people in the door each day for the first week and an enter to win $1000 gear make-over. Plus, Mountain Hardwear will donate 10% of sales for the entire month of April to Multnomah county’s Friends of Outdoor School which sends sixth graders to science camp.

In addition to having the largest selection of Mountain Hardwear apparel and equipment and Montrail footwear in the world, it is our goal that the store be an information and meeting resource center for Portland area outdoor clubs and organizations. The store will include a resource center with a comfortable meeting area, a computer kiosk with links to clubs’ web sites and will be available to host club slide shows or lectures.

Events and promotions that will be open to the public include:

    • Ribbon cutting by Mike Wallenfels, Mountain Hardwear president and founder. Friday April 11, 10:00 am.
    • On site KNRK radio promotion. Friday, April 11 12:00 to 2:00 pm.
    • Mike Libecki, Mountain Hardwear solo adventurer and climber, slide show.  Saturday, April 12, 2:00 pm.
    • Matt Hart, Montrail endurance runner, slide show. Sunday, April 13, 2:00 pm.
    • Defender day packs to be given to the first 25 customers in the door April 11-13.
    • Rugger day packs to be given to the fist 25 customers in the door April 14-17.
    • Mountain Hardwear will donate 10% of sales for the entire month of April to Multnomah county’s Friends of Outdoor School which sends sixth graders to science camp.

Ooh... this sounds extremely interesting. I always love to explore outdoors outfitters.. and, hey, giveaways practically had me sold.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Bill.  I swung by there this morning and picked up the Defender pack.  There were only 24 people in line when the store opened up at 11am so everyone in line (and someone who wasn't) got one.  Absolutely the best business travel pack I've seen...it has a padded laptop sleeve and lots of organizational pockets in about the most durable pack imaginable (upon first look.
