    Trails Association of Oregon

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRAIL WORK EVENT

    Sunday, May 4, 2008
    Angels Rest Trail, Columbia Gorge

The work site is 1.25 miles from the trail head. We will continue working on opening a new trail section, about 1/10 mile in all, including a switchback or climbing turn. The project will later include decommissioning the existing section of trail that has become too damaged for usage.Tools with training, hard hats and safety guidelines will be be provided. Wear long pants, sturdy boots, work gloves, protective eye wear, bring appropriate weather/rain gear and pack food and water for being on the trail site several hours.

It is both fun and hard work to be involved with this valued project. Come join us for this event if you can! Here is a report and photos of our April 19 inaugural event: http://portlandhikers.org/forums/thread/35043.aspx

Please reply to Barbra Baker at  blair9903@yahoo.com  by Friday, May 2nd if you can volunteer, and she will forward you the meeting places and times.

    Thank you.

Please also note that it might be a good idea to bring along a little extra cash to help out anyone  you might end up car pooling with.

Thanks Jamie, I forgot to post that part. An estimate is 10 cents a mile RT but your driver can decide what is appropriate. You might want to bring a little more $ if any in the group want to stop for debriefing and refreshments after:) Pizza

What are the start/stop times?  I may be able to help but would need to figure out what to do with my dog for the day.

I went on the trail maintenance event today and had a great time. We worked our buttts off and had a ball. I really enjoyed the chance to put faces to names of some of the folks on this site. I found out that there is a real craft to building a trail. I also learned that lusting after a good grubbing hoe is a good thing. It is an experience that I intend to repeat as often as schedule permits. I am sure there will be an official trip report with pictures and everything, so stay tuned. Big Smile
