I figured I will pry out some trail info from you all in a couple months. I might be thinking of doing another PCT section this year in Or. I enjoyed going from Mt. Hood to the Columbia last year. Just have to decide what section next!

    Hello Sarbar!

Welcome to the site!  I am actually planning that exact same trip as soon as snow levels permit it, as well as a Jefferson to Hood for later in the year.  I'd love to hear how many days you used for Hood to the Gorge and where you spent nights.  I am under the impression that there is no camping within the Bull Run area.  Anywho, any info you could pass along would be most appreciated...and once again, welcome!

Welcome, Sarah! I've hiked the PCT in sections from Crater Lake to the Columbia. If you haven't hiked the Breitenbush to Santiam Pass piece, it's probably the highlight for me - and in a northward direction, saving the best for last. Jefferson Park, and the parting shot over Park Ridge and down to Breitenbush is some of the finest scenery anywhere! The area between Santiam Pass and Jeff Park is dotted with lakes, and very scenic, though the best spots in this area are off the PCT -- so a good place to spend some time on the connecting trails.

That said, if you're working out a car shuttle, I'd recommend tacking on the additional mileage from Breitenbush Lake to Olallie Lake, to avoid the very bad road to Breitenbush. There's also a store and rentable cabins at the very rustic Olallie Lake Resort. This is a trip best done in August or September, to avoid mosquitos and snow.

This is a bit off-topic, and probably belongs in "What's for Dinner," but I want to let you know that Sarah is the author of "Freezer Bag Cooking" and that I am one of her devoted fans!

    Zombie,

We took 3 nights and 4 days to do that section.

First night was spent at just pass the crossing of the Sandy River. Once you regain the trail from the river bed there is a large forested bench. It was a nice camp. We had gone on to Ramona Falls and came back - the area around the falls was cold and dark.

Night two was at Salvation Springs below the trail. This was after we crossed Lolo Pass. Very buggy but otherwise nice. It sits below the water shed so is legal. Good water if you go to the falls.

Third night was at Indian Springs, in the old car CG. Was odd having picnic tables ;) There were only two others up there with us so everyone took their own site. The sites are all hidden down in the trees. Good spring there as well.

We hiked down the old trail from IS to the Eagle Creek Trail. The trail is very steep but a good trail. Hiked out Eagle.

All my photos are on this page. Fair warning, though my photos are compressed, this page tends to load a bit slower than some due to how many I have!

And thanks on the info also...I have thought about doing the Or border at Ca to Hood. That would be fun! Because.....who knows when Washington is going to melt out this year! Agh!

Thanks for the info!  Now I'm even more excited for the snow to ease up :)

    Welcome, Sarbar!

I'll agree with Spintercat, the PCT from Breitenbush/Jefferson south through the Sisters is the best in Oregon. Feel free to ask any questions here!

    Paul,
That section is up hopefully for next summer :) This summer seems to be headng for doing White Pass to FS 43 at Wind River on the PCT and hopefully to finish the section I haven't done between Snoqualmie Pass and Norse Peak in Washington. I figure I can get those sections done in about 2-3 weeks time...if the snow EVER melts! Argh!

    Then back to Oregon :D
