        Hi all,

I have used the field guides on the site to go on a few hikes the last few months and was wondering if there is a preferred guide book to augment the trips.  A few times the writeups were a little sparse in direction and we ended up taking some wrong turns or repeating certain loops.  While I found this part of the adventure my wife was a little less forgiving ;)  Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if I have a preferred guide book, but please let us know the details on where you had problems with the Field Guide. Like any decent sized work, it's less than perfect, but we're working to get there.

What do you suppose is around that next bend?

Your feedback is what helps make the field guide so good

    Sullivan's books are good

Paul Gerard's "60 hikes within 60 miles of Portland" is good

I am really enjoying Afoot & Afield Portland/Vancouver, the 2nd edition just came out in March. It has a great variety of lesser known trails, and so far excellent directions.

In addition to the fine guides already listed, I really like Scott Cook's books. "Curious Gorge" and "Pokin Round the Gorge". They are off beat and feature some of the hidden gems the area has to offer.
