Anyone know if I could backpack in the Opal Creek area this weekend?

Just wondering if it's bureid in snow.

If it's possible I was thinking of starting at Jawbone Flats, but was wondering if

there was somewhere to pitch a couple tents for 1 night once we got out on the trails.

I couldn't tell you about the snow, though from what I've heard it seems to have melted out. However, I can tell you about campsites. There aren't many before Jawbone Flats but once up the Opal Creek trail there are decent sites every half mile or so. Cedar Flats is nice, and there's a huge site along the creek below Cedar Flats. There may also be sites further upstream of Cedar Flats, but I haven't seen many obvious ones.

There may be something decent along Battle Axe Creek too, though I couldn't tell you about that.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Just wanted to make sure you're aware that you can't really start at Jawbone Flats. The trailhead is at a locked gate about 3 miles before you get there.
