I dehydrate much of the food I bring with me on the trail, but I have never been completely satisified with the usual Ziploc approach to food packaging.  I recently came across this article that provides a very detailed description of the author's experience with vacuum packaging.  It is worth a glance if you have every toyed with the idea of using that approach.

Nice article.  I am looking to replace my failing Foodsaver, but had never given it quite this much thought.  The cost of the Foodsaver bags is about .50/bag, plus no gussets or zips.  Zips make for nice ways to pack out your trash without washing it while on the trail.  This looks like a nice alternative.
