The easiest way to add a photo to a post is to copy it from another location on the web and paste it here.  In fact we recommend using a photo gallery like flickr or smugmug and upload your photos to one of those sites then copy them here.  You are also welcome to use your PortlandHikers photo gallery - but space there is somewhat limited.

    Here is the process

Go into your photo gallery and right-click on the photo and select "copy"

Go to your post in Portland Hikers

    Gallery31.JPG

And right click into the message window, right-click and select Paste

The result should look like this:

    Gallery33.JPG

    And there you go!

    Drawbacks:

There is one pretty big drawback of this method: If you move or delete the photo in your gallery it will disappear from your post in Portlandhikers.  I recommend you create a special subfolder in your flickr or other gallery and make copies of your photos there to link here.  If you use Smugmug or some other pay site, remember that at whatever time your subscription runs out  all your photos on PortlandHikers disappear!  Let us know if you are going to have change like this upcoming and we can help you migrate things so your photos don't disappear from the posts on portlandhikers.

    Alternative method
For use with Mac / Safari / Firefox

Portlandhikers uses Community Server for it's forum software.  It has its drawbacks for non-Internet Explorer browsers, like Safar or Firefox.  There is a way to use tags to paste photos as well.

The tag format is like this:

    [ img ]http://www.mygallery/image23.jpg[ /img ]

    (remove the spaces)

The address between the tags probably won't work unless it ends in jpg or aspx.  In other words you can't just put the link to your photo page, it has to be a link to the photo itself.

In flickr, for instance you can get this code from the "all sizes" page.  You'll see the link listed under "grab the photo's URL"

    Gallery34.JPG

So, for this example you'd link to our site using:

    [ img ]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/74/217163523_497547db8e_t.jpg[ /img ]

(again, remove the spaces around img)

If this doesn't work, please let us know.  We'll try to help!
