I'm planning a short bike tour along 224 and I hope to find a place to camp somewhere between Three Lynx and Timothy Lake.  The plan is that my girlfriend will drive out there and meet me with our dog and we can camp overnight and go for a hike.

What trails are in that area that would be good for a novice hiker?  I'm slowly getting her interested in hiking so we'll probably do 5 miles or less.

Where is a good place to camp along there?  Neither of us have been to the area and the tricky part is that I need to find it on bike while she needs driving directions.

Here is a map that includes my proposed route:  http://tinyurl.com/2mvzzo

If you're talking about spring /summer, Harriet Lake might be a nice camping spot away from 224.  It's a bit under halfway to Timothy Lake just off Road57 . A couple other little forest service roads from just past there would take you to Hideaway Lake (and the beginning of an access to Shellrock Lake and the Rock Lakes Trail) . For novice hiking Timothy Lake might be better. It's basically a flat 12 mile loop that you can do all or part of and pretty much have no fear of getting lost.

If you are talking about going now  in winter, the road connecting 224 and 26 (FS Road 57) is snow covered and closed. The Forest Service does not plow their roads, it will not open until the snow melts. The USFS Mt Hood website updates conditons every week or two..

Yes, I should have added that I'm just planning for the spring once the snow melts.  Thanks!
