today i bushwhacked up tish creek to the falls.  i started out on the eagle creek trail, nothing to report there exept that there was no trilliums out yet, that i could see.  okay, then the bushwhack starts here at the tish creek bridge.  there are some faint trails leading up the ceek for the first few hundred feet or so.  then the trails disappear, and total bushwhacking begins. this first part has lots of brush, and small mossy vine maples.  for the first part i was on the north side of the creek. the other side has steep cliffs here.  then my side of the creek got steep, so i crossed, where there was enough room to walk by the cliffs. i crossed again in a few feet back to the other side again because of the cliffs. i kept going, sometimes by the creek, sometimes up thirty feet above.  there are a few talus slopes and steep areas where it was hard. i was so busy blocking the brush, i forgot to take pictures of the creek and forest.  after a few bends in the creek, i heard, then saw tish creek falls.   i kept going to the base.  this falls is at least a hundred feet tall.  it was sprinkling while i was on the way, but right when i got to the falls, the sun came out.  normally this would be a good thing,  but i brought my dads d40 to take slow pictures, but the sun ruined it. darn.  the falls is so big in fact, that you cant get it all in one picture. i took two vertical pictures and stitched them together using autostitch.  here they are. ( by the way, when i got home, i cheated and blurred the water for a slower effect)

this falls was a half mile from the eagle creek trail.   all over, a great day bushwhacking

Wow Jamey, that looks amazing. Your photos keep getting better all the time. I'll admit I've never heard of these falls. They're on the list now.

    Keep up the good work,

    Adam

since i didnt take any pictures of the creek, i found one of chameleons photos of black bear creek  that represents about how brushy it is, but there wasnt as many logs across the creek as this picture

Nice Job… it's amazing falls of this size are just under everyone's noses. Did you see any Poison Oak… I might have to go check this one out once I'm on Eagle Creek again. How long did it take you from the bridge to the falls?

lets see, i dont think there was any poison oak.  EVERYTHING was covered in moss.  there was one patch of devils club though, right next to the creek.  it took my almost an hour to get to the falls, and about 20 minutes back.  mind you though, im not a very experienced bushwhacker, this was the first one ive done completely with no trail

Nice work Jamey. I especially liked the expert way you merged the photos of the falls.  I don't have a clue on how to do that and make it so seemless.

Excellent, Jamey! Take Don along next time - I'm sure he'd be willing to scramble up that cliff with a rope to measure the falls with...

    Tom ;-)

HA!  - but seriously, we do need to get in there and get a measurement on that thing somehow.

i wouldnt have been up to it to go there yesterday, i had the physical strength left in me, but, i had my neighbor along with me, and by the first 300 yards of the bushwhack, i lost him.  so all the way there i was kind of worried and freaked out, cause it seemed like he wasnt continuing, and i had just kept going.  but im pretty sure you could climb up the left side of the falls. its pretty open, as you can see by my second stitched picture above.

don to stitch my pictures, i use autostitch.  you literally open two or more pictures, and it magically stitches them. then, it gives you an odd shape, and you have to crop it out. sometimes, like on my first picture, i wanted just a bit more than what autostitch gave me, i use Pixelmator for mac and clone stamp it in.  heres a link for autostitch.

also, there is another maybe 15 foot tier directly above that you can see approaching the falls, but not at the base.

So is it possible to work your way up to the falls without fording the creek? I don't mind getting my feet wet on a descent but it is quite annoying when your feet get wet right off the bat.

You wouldn't have a gps track of your trip would you?

    Thanks again…

you can rock hop accross. it is right up the creek, and i dont have a gps, so no gps track.  its right where topo says it is   here

on the way back, i didnt care about my feet, and i just forded the creek, but on the way there, there were plenty of rocks to jump to.   also, tish creek is a smaller volume creek.

i think you could go all the way with the north side of the creek, but it got steep and muddy,  to muddy to climb up.
