Just what we need, more crime stories to keep people inside and scared so they watch tv and get more fat buying the sponsors products than getting out and enjoying the world around them. Thanks for nothing KATU.

Agreed, can't say I've been itching for more stories on crime.  Angry

Not too big a surprise, given the tabloid quality of the Presidential debate that their parent network ran last week. Infotainment at its worst.

If you want to send an email, here is the place. I addressed mine to "Station Management." KATU's reception out here in Troutdale is so much poorer than the other local stations that Grant and his programs were the only reason I watched. Obviously I will be switching stations, and I told them that.
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.--E.Abbey

For those that might have missed it at the time, here's a story that Grant did about PortlandHikers:

Thanks for the link.  I wrote a note to KATU and got the same "no comment" response.

I sent them an email also.

I sent them email before, I think it was after a John Stossel global warming denial show, and didn't get a response either.

Wow, that really sucks.  I've always felt he had a great show, and it was like a breath of fresh air when watching any of this corporated owned media stuff.

Here is another thread I found: http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?p=1978673

I've shared photos with him for sometime, what a major loss to the outdoor community!

It is unfortunate but from what I gather from others I've talked to in the biz ( advertising that is ) it has more to do with economics and the company that owns KATU than anything else, seems they haven't been doing all that great. Plus stations like KATU years ago had all kinds of special reporters for things like healthcare, food etc etc. It's a sad sign of the times in my book, it's almost like what has been happening in schools, not enough money, OK lets cut art, music, PE… blah blah blah

ok I'm off my soap box now.

    gotta love the local news!

Yep, it's pretty hard to compete in the information age!

This makes appreciate shows like Oregon Field Guide all the more.  That show is so great

Very sad...I'd tune in every once in a while if I caught a teaser for a report of his coming up.

I actually stopped watching KATU a few years ago when they were covering a story of a child that drowned on Sauvie Island...they showed a long-range zoom-in (obviously, the police were keeping the media away and for good reason) on the child's parents hysterically crying in an ambulance and then showed a clip of the child's lifeless body being carried away.  I felt that there was absolutely no need to show the deceased child or his heartbroken family.  It was really one of the most disgusting displays of the local media trying to outdo each other.
