After reading through the "panorama tips" thread, it occurred to me that several of us are doing these. So this thread is for posting your panoramas (I'm going to try images at 900 pixels in width) with a few words about the location and the pan specs.

I'll start with a couple from a trip to Baker City last spring -- apologies for the separate posts, but my community server doesn't support multiple images for my browser (yet).

The first image is of the south side of the Wallowa Mountains in early March, as seen from a ridge above the Powder River Valley, east of the Oregon Trail Center.

...and here's an image from the other side of the Oregon Trail Center, this time looking south toward the Elkhorn Mountains (also across the Powder River Valley).

Both pans use 5 images stitched with PhotoStitch -- a proprietary that Canon used to ship with it's cameras, and the best stitch application I've used (far better than Photoshop's photo merge plug-in, which does a horrible job with blending sky tones).

Here's another - this time a simple mini-panorama from two images taken along the Anthill Trail above Wahtum Lake in July of this year. There are a couple of stitching flaws that are not unusual when blending wide angle image - to top of the ridge in the background/center has a small ghost, and the scree slope in the foreground/center is blurred. Normally, I would correct these with Photoshop, but thought I'd leave them since this is a thread about taking panoramas. The fix in the foreground would be easy with the stamp tool - for the background, I'd use the magic wand and either the stamp or brush tool to erase the ghost area.

...and another! This is an oldy-moldy from 2000 that I took with my old Canon A-50 (a great little camera, and my first digital). The view is from Gnarl Ridge - an early attempt at a 360 pan, but as you can see, the sun angle wasn't right for the full sweep. This panorama is composed from nine images (out of 14 that I actually took).

    Very Cool !!!

My first try at stitching was some pictures I took up McNeil Point. I used the software that was recommended on a previous post here: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html

My experience with it is to take way more shots than you would expect to use. I had to crop alot to get the project pana rectangular in shape.

Yep, that's a good spot up there. After many trips in the vicinity of Wahtum, I finally got up there this summer with my friend Greg -- largely because of a shot from this location that I saw on NW Hiker.

Here's a new pan from Gnarl Ridge - this one taken last Friday. That is still my favorite spot on the mountain. Not as graceful as the northside views, but the massive scale of everything always blows me away!

So... I hope somebody else has some pans to post..!

Interesting - I didn't realize it until I posted the new pan, but the old version was taken from a spot further up Gnarl Ridge, where there is a little saddle just above the trail (and where the trail begins to descend steeply to the main Gnarl Ridge viewpoint)

The second image is from the well-known viewpoint, where the waterfalls on the various forks of Newton Creek can be seen.

    Love it up there!

6 photos stitched from Montaña de Oro State Park - CA. Sadly it was very overcast.

I just love this Gnarl Ridge pan!

Yep, it's a very "muscular" view of Hood, compared to the classic "graceful" view from Hood River Valley or Lost Lake. More like Rainier or Adams in bulk and breadth from this side! Of course, that's what I love about Hood - it has more personalities (and IMO, graceful beauty) than any of its peers up and down the chain. Of course, I'm completely biased...

Another panorama for the pile, this time from the shoulder of Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain -- as viewed last night at around 5:30 PM. This is a composite of 3 images:

Hurricane Ridge in Grand Teton National Park ... about 14 pictures.  I love autostitch!

That's cool! So is that two rows of seven images? I've only done one "grid" stitch before -- a bit dicier than your standard panorama.

It is a grid stitch.  I've only really had luck when shooting with a tripod.  It does take exponentially longer to process them.  In fact, the image I uploaded is just the 20% scale since I didn't want to wait for the full scale.  I made the mistake of pumping up the quality and had to cancel it after 17 hours of processing!
