I'm getting "primary file group full" in the Hiking Clubs forum. Is it true I can enter one or two lines as a workaround, and then go back and edit the rest of the content into it?

I think the best response is "maybe".  That was working well for me previously, but lately it hasn't worked too well.  Entering text in short pieces does appear to work, however.

It's kind of like those contests: "Explain why you like brand xxx in 100 words or less." It won't be long, though, until the migration. You could put trip reports on Word or a text file to save them and copy/paste them into the new format when the new system is up and running. Here is the thread on what's going to happen.

Yay! It worked! Let me tell ya, this isn't the only web site having a meltdown. I'm scheduled to lead a July 4 backpack, only nobody knows about it.
